I just found out I passed my Broker Exam I took on Wednesday. I must say the California DRE is very prompt about getting back to you on the results. I found them posted on line today.
I have spent months preparing for it. I had to take 5 courses on different aspects of real estate and pass on line course exams. I then spent a couple of months doing test preparation. You do learn a lot about real estate and the job of being a Broker while getting ready for the test, but there is a lot of esoteric information:
- Do you know how long a Chain is? It is 66 feet or 4 Rods.
- Well if you read the above you now know that a Rod is 16.5 feet.
- There are 100 Links in the chain. Do the math to figure it out in inches.
- Probably learning how big an acre is and what a commercial acre is is more important, but still not used a lot in day to day residential real estate.
Much of California Real Estate Law comes from Spanish Law. I do not think we are aware on a day to day basis the extent of Spanish influence in our real estate law and some of the language is so common to us we forget the Spanish Origins.
I was really nervous. The test is 2 1/2 hours in the morning and 2 1/2 hours in the afternoon. There is 100 questions in each part covering law, ethics, brokerage operations, and math. The exams are given in 5 cities around the state. There were about 45 of us taking the exam in Sacramento. I was the first one done on both parts. I did review my answers before leaving, but I figure I either knew it or did not.
Most people do not realize that real estate sales agents do not work for them, but work for an employing broker. Sales agents can only do business under the supervision of a broker. When dealing with a sales agent you are actually employing the broker and the sales agent is the broker's employee helping you.
So any one got any good ideas for the name of a new Brokerage?
