Changing Traditions!

Tradition is very important to me.  I do many things because that is the way my father did it.  (Sometimes I do things a little different and tell the kids that is the way grandpa did it anyway!  I like them to believe in tradition too.)  I make fudge the same way he did and cook popcorn balls too.

However, some things change for the better.  When I was a kid we always ate Christmas Dinner on Christmas Day.  We are also one of those families that opens the presents on Christmas morning.

Well when I married my wife she had a different tradition.  She could not help it if she was wrong, besides a love her.  However, she started a new tradition.  Every year she makes everyone a pair of pajamas.  (I bought her a pair one year - she did not like them.  For what I paid for them she thought there should have been more material!)

Every Christmas Eve when I seem to be out of the room Santa comes and drops off the Pajamas.  He tells the little boys to get to bed so he can come back and leave some toys.  The toys and the other presents get opened in morning.

A few years ago I noticed how exhausted we were on Christmas making a huge meal for Christmas dinner.  We decided we would have Christmas dinner early in the afternoon on Christmas eve, before we go to church.  (Our Church generally has a service around 6 pm).

This really stretches Christmas out for two days.  We are not as tired for Christmas dinner and we can spend Christmas Day just relaxing and eating the left offers and Christmas Goodies.

As we have no big Christmas Dinner on Christmas day a new tradition arose.  I make a special, but informal Christmas Breakfast.  It has been my special French Toast Recipe, which also goes good with left over ham from the night before.  However, this year it changes again.  We are going to let my son make Crepes, as this is something he has been learning in his culinary course at school.

I hope you have some great Christmas traditions - old or new!
