We are coming upon the Winter Solstice, the darkest day of the year.
When the church spread across Europe and into the cold northern parts of the world, the days were even darker and colder this time of year. When the earlier church encountered pagan cultures and worship the would turn the days of celebration into a Christian Holiday. (Many old testament Jews Feast and Holidays parallel Pagan ones too.)
What better way to celebrate the darkest day of the year than the arrival of the Light of the World. God humbled himself and became flesh because he loves us and he wants to connect with us. He did not come to condemn the world, but to save it (John 3:17). All of us strive for a connection to the devine in some way, but God reached out to us by becoming weak like us and enduring the same sufferings and temptations as us.
He came in weakness and humility, but Kings worshiped him and his power has shaken the world; he died and yet he lives. He left, but is coming again. He has given us the power to rise above our base nature and to love and live in truth.

The point of Connection with God is Jesus who came us the Light of the World. At this time of year the World cannot deny him. The whole world will be focused on his coming this week.
