Edna Hill Jr High Wrestling Match
The Kids on the Edna Hills team looked much sharper in this second match. My video has gotten a little better too. I really do not know all the kids by name so if I have made a mistake or you can ID one let me know.
The only Wrestling I every did was High School PE, which is not enough to really give you an appreciation of the sport. As I non-expert I will try and fill you in on what I see. Wrestling is a lot like the martial arts; it depends on the use of your body and the ability to make moves and counter moves. However, raw strength and size is also very important. In most martial arts it is about the hits and the throws. In wrestling you might see a throw, but it is about the holds and the moves to control you opponent with those moves.
The key to success is desire and sticking with it. I see kids who are natural athletes give up when success does not come easy to them. Then I see Kids like my son who succeed just by sticking with it. The first year he hardly won anything. The second year he won about 40%. This year he is 3-1 so far. This does not mean he will succeed in high school, but he does see that sticking with it pays off.
Edna Hills Singlets are Blue and Black with an EH on the back, or Blue and Gold. One of the other teams also wears Blue and Black and it can get confusing.
The First Video is a Win by one whose name I do not know:
The next Video is Scotty. He is one of my sons Wrestling Partners and is very good.
This Video is Karly and she is a first year 8th grade wrestler. Her opponent is very experienced and Karly does well for her first year against a tough opponent.
Here is Ryan. At the end of the Match the Ref raises the hand of the wrong kid as the victor. He later reverses the call.
Finally we have Nicole with an impressive victory.
