When I was young and single and the Oakland A’s were the hottest team in town with the Bash Brothers and three World Series appearances in 3 years I would go to 20-30 A’s games a year. Often setting out in the cheap seats and buying food to take in with me. I even remember taking a girl friend of mine to a Giants game in the afternoon and an A’s Game that night for a Bay Bridge double header on one of those rare days they both played at home.
As I get older and have five boys’ ages 12 to 21 months I like crowds less and less. The thought of managing my pack through a crowd at a major league stadium makes me cringe, not to mention what it does to my wallet. My solution: The Stockton Ports of the Class A California League.
I love going to Ports games. They have a modern stadium in Banner Island Stadium that sets right on the river. The stadium is small enough I can let my kids wonder around a bit while I set and enjoy the games. The prices are not cheap (nothing ever is) but it is more affordable than the Major Leagues. The cheap seats are the lawn up on Home Run Hill ($5.00 a piece – But you can get a discount on these). I like night games in the summer when a cool breeze comes up off the river.
The Ports are the A’s single A affiliate. Field Level seats run $7.00, with a number of discount programs, many aimed at kids and seniors. There are also a lot of promotions and give a ways at games.
If you like an exciting game of Baseball in a family friendly environment, give the Ports a try. Maybe after the game your kids can run the bases, or there will be fire works. The players are friendly and the mascot Splash is always around. Living in Brentwood it is only a short drive away.
Each home is unique and if you want an evaluation of your home please let me know.
